Our Initiatives

We are extremely passionate about our vision coming to life through our annual activities that effectively touch and connect our community in various nurturing manners. 

Ujuma Market Hosted at Shades of Afrika 

• Weekly farmers market event on Saturdays & Sundays from 12pm - 4pm
• Welcoming local minority owned businesses to sell in front of Shades of Afrika to the community
• We prioritize vendors selling all natural and organic products such as heirloom produces, handcrafted goods, and more

Work Opportunities 

• We offer job / volunteering opportunities to local community members who are interested in learning about how to run a business or just need a job. 
• Although our capacity is limited, we plan on expanding our job opportunities as the positions arise in our community connections as we believe that there is an opportunity waiting for the right candidate.

Annual Kwanzaa Celebration & Education

• We host an Annual Kwanzaa celebration in December as a cultural experience for the Long Beach & Surrounding Areas community that offers those of African descent the opportunity to celebrate a holiday that aligns with their heritage and ancestry prior to colonization.
• We offer Kwanzaa sets through Shades of Afrika as a way to supply households with the essential tools to celebrate.
